Time recording report

The Time Recording report lists the time recording entries dated in a period, with totals for each billing state. It’s a quick way to track the billable time being spent on your matters. To see how much time has been invoiced and paid, use the Time Invoiced report.

Open it from Reports > Time > Recordings.

  1. Optional: Status: show only entries that are Free, Outstanding or Receivable Raised
  2. Optional: Team/Fee Earner: show only entries recorded by particular fee earners, or on matters whose fee earner is in particular teams. A team here is the matter fee earner’s team, not necessarily the team of whoever recorded the time. The list is searchable and groups people by team. Selecting a team clears any individual fee earners you’ve picked, and the other way round
  3. Optional: Matter Types: show only entries on matters using particular matter templates. You can choose several
  4. Optional: Type: show only a particular type of time recording
  5. Choose the date range. It starts as last week
  6. Run

Save the report to reuse its filters. Time Recording reports saved before the report was rebuilt still open with their filters. If a saved filter names something that has since been deleted, that filter resets to All.

Four totals above the table cover every entry that matches your filters, not just the page on screen:

  • Free: non-chargeable time
  • Outstanding: chargeable time not yet raised as a receivable
  • Receivable Raised: time that has been raised as a receivable
  • Total: all of the above

The table shows each entry’s:

  • Date
  • Status
  • Fee Earner
  • Matter: select the reference to open the matter in a new tab
  • Detail: the type of entry and any notes recorded against it
  • Rate: the rate name and hourly rate
  • Hours: shown with the units recorded, for example 1.5 (15 units)
  • Amount

Select a column heading to sort by it, and use the arrows to move between pages.

Select Export to download every matching entry as a .csv file, in the order the table is sorted.
